Tips for learning about Japanese Swords:

1) Buy Books: Start with John Yumoto's  The Samurai Sword: a handbook . This  book will  give you a good background  in all the terminology that needs to be learned.
2) Download the  information from the NBTHK American Branch website at www.nbthk-ab.org  on how to handle and look at a Japanese sword.
3) Join a Japanese sword club near you, go to the sword shows that are held around the country. There's nothing better than being able to see and hold a sword to learn about it.
4)  Most importantly learn what not to buy. Learn how to look for all the faults in a blade.
