BC28, Akao Tsuba, An old iron sukashi tsuba . it is a well forged assymetrical tsuba showing it was hand forged hundreds of years. It is signed Echizen Ju Akao. Tsubas with Akao signatures are from early Edo into mid Edo era. There are dated pieces from 1661, 1677, 1727 and 1744. Some of the names known are just Akao, Jinemon, Kibei, Kichibeinojo and many generations of Yoshitsugu. This signature is just like several shown in Wakayama's book and it has age enough to be pre 1700. Condition is very good with some slight seppa wear.A light boning of the surface would make it look even better and the small iron bones would show better.
