CWH#5 Antique Japanese sword wakizashi 19 " Nio Sword from Suo in Yamaguchi ken. In shirasaya with partial mounts. With NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificate
Mihaba 1 1/16", at yokote 3/4", Kasane 1/4" , kissaki 1 1/8 " long.
It is in 1/8 inch temper of suguba showing all the workings one expects from this hard to find school. The nakago has two holes and was cut out of a daito hundreds of years ago. I feel it is from the late Kamakura to early Nambokucho era. It exhibits the great hada in mokume and small itame which is well pronounced making this a piece to enjoy looking at. It has a NBTHK Tokubetsu Hozon certificate and a Tanobe Michihiro sayagaki from about 10 years ago. There is a kinkise niju habaki of excellent make and construction. Blade condition is in great condition. In full polish.
This sword came with a saya with wave design on the metal parts with a tsuka of waves ,rabbit and moon with long earred rabbit menuki. The tsuka needs to be fitted and a wave tsuba would be needed to be found to complete the mounts. The blade and mounts sold as is .
