Additional NBTHK Shinsa Information

Below is the NBTHK Shinsa grading or appraisals that can be gotten by non citizens of Japan .

Hozon & Tokubetsu Hozon - These two can be judged at the same time if that selection is made on the submission forms. This shinsa is done on alternating sword and kodogu months except Aug, Sept.

Odd numbered months are for Sword shinsa – Jan, March, May, July, Nov.

Even numbered months are for  Kodogu  shinsa – Feb, April, June, Oct, Dec.

Juyo Token – This shinsa is held once a year with submission in September.

Tokubetsu Juyo Token – This shinsa is held every other year in March. The next will be March of 2006. A sword that makes Tokuju has to be the caliber of a Bunkazai in order to make this level. Non citizens hardly ever get this rating.

 The next categories are not available to non citizens of Japan .

 Juyo Bijutsu Hin – Historically significant (not issued any more)

 Juyo Bunkazai – Cultural property

 Kokuho – National treasure
